About the Region:
Sumatra, the western-most island of Indonesia, is one of the most famous coffee growing regions in the world. Coffees from Sumatra are known for their smooth, sweet body that is both balanced and intense. The process from which the coffee is harvested and washed is called "giling basah" or wet hulling. This process reduces acidity and increases body, resulting in the classic Indonesian cup profile. Indonesia is often forgotten due its remote location, but it is actually the 4th largest coffee producer in the world. Today it is estimated that over 90% of the coffee produced in Indonesia is by small local farmers. We believe this strengthens the flavor and character of the coffee and adds more subtle diversity to the marketplace.
